Head of Ship Management and Planning Division (m/f/d)

Your position in our crew

The Division Manager “Ship Management and Planning Division” is responsible for the oversight of optimization of preventive maintenance and repair planning of the Royal Brunei Navy Fleet and the Special Boats and Crafts (approx. 140) with the respective team (> 25) on the Muara Naval Base. The Division Manager shall apply strategy value realization processes of assigned activities to achieve maintenance and repair deliveries within the approved scope, budget, and schedule. 

Principle accountabilities as Division Manager include:

  • Planning of Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Tasks 
  • Defining relevant resources, material requisition, and documentation 
  • Coordination of the work tasks preparation including but not limited to: 
    • the resources (infrastructure, manpower, OEM and subcontractor) 
    • the material requirements with the Heads of the respective Divisions, the warehouse management and the Navy. 
  • Overseeing the coordination of work tasks with the Head of Workshops and other Departments if necessary 
  • Manages Ship Manager Team responsible for the completion of work projects in accordance with the upkeep plan ensuring timely progress and performance reports for all assigned project activities 
  • Monitors and updates ERP database on preventive and corrective data which includes analysis of OPDEF, root cause and others apply effective controls of scope, schedule, budget, quality and efficiency 
  • The Division Manager “Ship Management and Planning” will also support the preparation of cost calculations and the related specification for quotations to the customer in cooperation with the Management Assistant for Calculations and the other Division Managers if necessary. He must check the cost calculations for plausibility.

The Division Manager “Ship Management and Planning” will prepare with his team upgradeand repair proposals for the Fleet and support the negotiations with the internal and external stakeholders including MMS Management, Royal Brunei Navy, and Ministry of Defense (Brunei), if necessary. He will be also a contact person for the Technical Liaison Officer of the customer. 

The Division Manager “Planning Division” reports directly to the Technical Managing Director. 


Area of Responsibility / Tasks

  • Planning of maintenance tasks, resources and material for an optimized workflow under consideration of the Navy requirements 
  • Coordination between the Divisions, Subcontractor, Navy and other Stakeholder 
  • Regularly updates of the Usage and Upkeep Plan 
  • Preparation of work list and implementation plan for intermediate and major maintenance periods - Preparation of data analysis (e.g. route cause analysis) and regular reports 
  • Updates of technical preventive maintenance documentation and maintenance task lists 
  • Capacity planning of the company considering the preventive and corrective tasks as well as the planned upgrade projects - Proactively conducting lessons learned 
  • Compliance with the Quality Management requirements 
  • Compliance with the HSE requirements 
  • Support for the definition of Maintenance budgets for the fiscal year (e.g. personnel, training, tools, equipment, material and main overhauls) 
  • Regularly evaluation/assessment of the employees and execution of performance appraisals (interviews) 
  • Scheduling and selection of training activities for MMS and customer personnel 
  • Budget responsibility

What’s in your kitbag

  • Education:
    • Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineer with master’s degree or similar education 
    • Training in Maintenance planning as well as resource and material planning 
    • Training in Maintenance activities is of advantage 
    • Training in economic management is of advantage
  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge and understanding of ship building industry or other production industry value chain processes which includes but is not limited to job task, workflow, material flow and cost accounting and/or other production facilities is required 
    • Fluent in Technical English (written and spoken) 
    • Good knowledge of maintenance planning tools 
    • Good knowledge of engineering principles and techniques 
    • Cost awareness 
    • Good knowledge in ERP Systems (PSi Penta would be an advantage) and data analysis 
    • Good knowledge of MS Office and common software applications 
    • Good knowledge of MS Office and common software applications (ERP System)
  • Experience:

    • 5 years’ professional experience in Maintenance planning 
    • Experience in ship building industry, Ship Operations or aviation industry 
    • Experience in Maintenance on Vessels, Aircrafts or equivalents 
    • 5 years’ professional experience in office management 
    • Experience with Government programs in the Asian Region of advantage
  • Abilities:

    • Ability to work in a team as well as independently 
    • Good communication and diplomatic skills 
    • Enthusiastic, open to innovation and capability to motivate employees 
    • Solution- focused management and result-oriented working 
    • Ability to act situational 
    • Willingness to travel - Flexibility 
    • Good social skills
  • Additional Information:

    • Work permit and (residence permit) permission to live in Brunei will be required if you are a non-Brunei citizen
